Striker bags four in fine team performance.

Coplestonians 5 Claydon 3
Bailey Fairweather was in goal for Cops following his mid-week signing to replace the injured Johnny Houchill. Also in the starting line-up were the promoted Cam Fairweather in midfield and Liam Stevens up front.

Cops took an early lead when Godbold latched onto C Fairweather’s slide rule pass and confidently finished past Dixon. B Fairweather made two good saves as Claydon responded but it was Cops who extended their lead when Owen headed across goal to find Godbold for his second. On 20 minutes Godbold completed a fine early hat-trick. After pressure on the visitors’ goal, Dixon cleared the ball but only as far as the Cops striker who returned the ball with interest as he sent in a powerful arrow-like shot to give the home side a 3-0 lead.

Claydon boast an attacking squad and pushed forward but found the Cops defence in resilient form, protected by the hard working Cole and Owen. However, they did pull back a goal when Buxton’s shot from the left found the net with Fairweather getting a hand to the ball but unable to deflect it wide.

HT 3-1

After the break it was Claydon in the ascendancy as they threw players forward and Turner, Ferniz and Fowler had to be at their best. Oxbrow and Abbott were introduced and both played an important role as Cops defied the odds which saw them increase their lead. The tireless Duka and substitute Soanes were causing the visitors defence a few problems and Soanes worked well with Godbold as they beat both the covering defender and Dixon for Godbold to stroke home his fourth goal.

A long ball over the top saw Wragg reduce the arrears as he broke clear and scored easily past B Fairweather. Cops then defended a number of corners confidently but B Fairweather failed to collect an inswinging effort and the ball fell into the net. He quickly made amends with a brilliant point blank save to keep Cops in front. The last word was with a resurgent home side as Soanes set up Dave King to complete the scoring and give Cops a much needed 3 points.
