Cup joy for Coplestonians Reserves as they beat Old Newton Reserves in the 2019/20 Travel Plus Tours Cup Final. With the game taking place a few hrs before Lockdown, a healthy crowd gathered under the Lights at Felixstowes Delwood Avenue.

The game kicked off with both teams attacking from the start. Cops had their first chance on 10 mins when Miller fired over from a Harris corner.

Old Newton were having their fair share of possession however a well organised Cops midfield were making it difficult for them to create space.

On 20 mins Cops took the lead. Hesitation in the Old Newton defence allowed Harris to break free and slot past the keeper.

Smith nearly added a second for Cops after excellent work from Stevens down the right.

Old Newton were now getting back into the game with Tynan causing problems for Cops with his pace down the left.

Cops conceded a free kick in a dangerous position on 30 mins however Wessels collected well in the Cops goal.

On 35 mins Abbott tried his luck from 25 yards out but fired well over. Shortly after King had a good chance to convert an Abbott cross.

Half time arrived with Cops holding onto their 1 goal lead.

From the off Old Newton started the second half putting pressure onto the Cops back four however the  Cops defence were in fine form.

On 55 mins Stevens fired against the post from outside the box.

Rooney and Thacks  made changes midway through with Cops looking to add some pace down the flanks.

Neither side were getting on top and chances were limited for both sides.

On 85 mins Blayney broke down the right and put a dangerous ball into the box however Quinn couldn’t get on the end of it.

With injury time approaching Old Newton chucked everything they had at Cops but were unable to get the equaliser needed to take the game into extra time.

At the final whistle the celebrations started for Cops.

It was a very close game and both sides must take a lot of credit for making it enjoyable to watch.

Man of the Match for Cops was Steve Smith. Such an influential player in this team and leads by example.

Well done lads. Fingers crossed football can return in a few weeks.

Thanks to Greg Abbott for the match report
