Report from Greg Abbott

After last weekends  Cup semi Final win Cops got down to league action by welcoming newly promoted Capel Plough Reserves to the Copleston Arena.

Cops were quick off the blocks and took an early lead  after 5 mins. A good cross from JK down the left was met by Huggins who slotted home from 6 yards. Capel came close to equalising on 15mins but the ball was headed off the line. Another attack saw Wessels make a fine save.

Cops extended their lead on 25 mins when a Stevens cross ended up in the back of the net. Well it looked a cross to me but I’m sure Liam will be quick to tell me otherwise.

Fairweather, Smith and Quinn were winning their midfield battles but a defensive error led to Capel pulling a goal back.

Further 1st half goals from JK and another from Huggins sent Cops into the break 4-1 up.

Not much to report from the 2nd half with  both sides failing to find the net. Well done to Capel for playing some tidy football and all the best for the season.

Also well done to young Ref James Brooks. Nice to see a ref who let the game flow.

Rooney and Thacks will be happy to kick start the season off with 3 points.
